Stir Your Pot Saturday - Storytelling with the Orishas
Mythology and parables of the African Deities that leave us with beautiful life lessons.
There are many misconceptions when it comes to Yoruba Mythology and Voudun (or voodoo as people sometimes call it). As I come from these 10,000 year old traditions I have grown up witnessing the fear factors and untruths associated with with rituals around fire, ceremonial painting of faces, snakes, chanting, dancing, rattles and drumming. I would love the world to know a different perspective through the love of my culture as its traditions and rituals and see how harmonised voudun is. Voudun is one of the oldest practices known to the world and its stories have been passed down for centuries.
Through Pataki (the stories and parables of Ifa Yoruba) I hope to be able to demystify some of these myths for you and abridge a closer understanding of how beautiful Yoruba, Voudun and the reality of its relationships with All Our Earth Relations can be.
Giving thanks to all my teachers and supporters of my practice of of Yoruba, the Orishas that keep me safe and well and my Ancestors for the Iburu (my strong voice) within that has been given opportunity in this lifetime to share old teachings. Ashe.
This month's Pataki is led by Oya, Goddess of the Wind and Storms.
In this Pataki, Oya brings lessons of what we need to embrace to understand change - change in ourselves and the world around us and how it is important to understand your surroundings in order to create your capability.
Tickets are $40 AUD
or purchase in conjunction with medicine bag class for $60 . This is a 1 hour mythology teaching with gratitude meditation.
Pataki supports circular economy thanking the indigenous teachers and ancestors whose wisdom pour into us from these parables. In turn proceeds from your ticket are paid forward to give thanks for their medicine.
